Roomster enables users to post room rental ads and find people to live with. Despite its strong niche and large user base, the platform’s interface had become outdated and difficult to use for both new and returning users. My task was to completely rethink the user experience on both web and mobile, making search and registration intuitive, simple, and visually appealing.

The platform suffered from several usability issues that affected both engagement and trust. The visual design looked outdated and didn’t reflect the scale or credibility of the service. Navigating the search experience was unintuitive and made it difficult for users to find relevant listings or roommates efficiently.

On mobile, the registration process was especially problematic, requiring too many steps and often causing users to abandon onboarding before completion. Overall, the platform lacked a smooth and user-friendly flow, leading to a high drop-off rate and missed opportunities for conversion.
Challange
I approached the redesign by focusing on clarity, speed, and ease of use across both platforms. The visual language was updated to feel modern and trustworthy, helping users feel confident using the product.

The search experience was completely restructured to allow for quick filtering, seamless map interaction, and better visibility of key listing details. In the mobile app, I streamlined the registration process to reduce friction and help users get started faster.

Navigation across the product was made more intuitive, ensuring that users could move effortlessly between listings, messages, and their profile without confusion or delay.
Solution
The Roomster redesign significantly improved the user experience across web and mobile platforms. Key improvements included simplified navigation, enhanced visual clarity, and an intuitive interface for core tasks. This project reinforced a core principle I believe in: great design isn’t just about style — it’s about removing barriers between users and their goals.
